Astros Seek Long-Term Deal with Slugger

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane has made it clear that he wants to re-sign outfielder George Springer. Crane has reportedly reached out to Springer's representatives about the possibility of signing an extension with the organization. https://twitter.com/Chandler_Rome/status/1218332373630115840 The Astros selected Springer in the first round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft. He has spent each of the last six seasons in the big leagues with Houston. The three-time All-Star is well deserving of an extension after what he's done on the field over the last three or four seasons. Should Houston Bring Springer Back? The 30-year-old outfielder is set to become a free...

Astros Open Grapefruit League Play With Loss To Washington

Sunday saw the Houston Astros on the field in West Palm Beach to take on the Washington Nationals to open spring training.  Saturday's game against the Nationals would have kicked off spring training for the Astros, but after two short innings, the game was cancelled due to heavy rain in the area.  Below is your Houston Astros game recap for February 23rd. Francis Martes Suspended For Season Due To PED Use

An offseason that saw the Houston Astros under an immense amount of scrutiny will likely not get any better anytime soon.  It certainly won't get any better with the news that right-hand pitcher Francis Martes has been suspended for the entire 2020 baseball season. Francis Martes tested positive for Baldenone, which is a banned performance enhancing drug.  Martes served an 80-game suspension in 2019 after he tested positive for clomiphene following Tommy John surgery https://twitter.com/brianmctaggart/status/1229533808778711040?s=20 It's been a disappointing career for Franics Martes thus far.  2017 has been the only season in Major League Baseball for Martes, as he finished with a...

Lance McCullers Jr. Key To Astros Success In 2020

Lance McCullers Jr. is back. The starting pitcher missed the entire 2019 season recovering from Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, or Tommy John surgery as it's more commonly known.  Last we saw McCullers Jr., he finished the 2018 season with a 10-6 record, as well as a 3.86 ERA and 142 strikeouts. https://twitter.com/astros/status/1228394273902616577?s=20 The 2018 season saw McCullers Jr. set career highs in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts.  With McCullers back on the mound for the 2020 season, the Houston Astros need him more than ever. Gerrit Cole had an outstanding 2019 season, but left the Astros as he signed a massive contract with...

Houston Has A Public Relations Problem

On Thursday, the Houston Astros held a press conference to apologize and address the sign-stealing scandal that has dominated much, if not all, of the offseason.  Astros owner Jim Crane, players Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve, as well as newly-hired manager Dusty Baker all made remarks and apologized for the incident. However, the press conference was a disaster for the Astros, especially for Crane.  His inability to use the word cheating didn't do himself any favors, as well as contradicting himself when asked whether or not the Astros role in the scandal impacted the game. https://twitter.com/CBSSports/status/1227970396793774082?s=20 With the press conference behind them,...
