Greg Olsen found a new home and he’s heading to the pacific northwest. The Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday that they have agreed to terms with the 13 year veteran for one year, $7 million along with $5.5 million in guaranteed money.

Olsen started his career with the Chicago Bears for four seasons before being traded to the Carolina Panthers. He would find success with the Panthers as a three time Pro Bowl tight end and named to the All-Pro team two times.

Olsen and the Panthers decided to part ways just a few weeks ago. Since that time, he has been working with Fox Sports as a color commentator for the new football league, XFL. He also went to visit Washington, Buffalo, and Seattle before settling with the Seahawks.

What impact does Olsen have on Seahawks?

This was a move Seattle needed to make as they needed depth at the tight end position. Will Dissy was on pace for a career season until his ruptured his Achillies tendon and was lost for the season. Luke Willson is an unrestricted free agent and Jacob Hollister is a restricted free agent. Ed Dickson was also in and out of injured reserved throughout the season.

Olsen brings experience along with pass catching ability with great route running. He was consistently Cam Newton’s favorite and most reliable target on offense. He frequently led the team in receiving year after year. Two of the last three seasons have been tough on Olsen’s body as he has had injury issues. Last season was better for him as he played and started 14 games.

Russell Wilson already has good receivers with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, but the offense never seemed as explosive and dangerous as they have been. Three of their last four weeks of the regular season showed the offense struggle. Even in the playoffs, the offense never really looked dangerous. Olsen should provide a valuable pass catcher in the passing game. He will add a spark in the offense that is needed.
