NBA Awards: What’s on the Line?

NBA Awards: What’s on the Line  With the NBA planning to make its return at the end of July, the resumption of the 2019-2020 season means a new NBA Champion will be crowded. They’ll do so inside a limited bubble in Orlando, FL, as the league has made arrangements with Disney for the use of the ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex. This return-to-play scenario has 22 teams vying for playoff seeding and ultimately the championship.  What’s also on the line? The NBA Awards.  The league boasts a...

Winners & Losers of the NBA Return

Last week, the NBA Board of Governors approved a return-to-play plan that included 22 teams entering a bubble in Orlando, FL. These teams will compete in an 8-game regular season seeding series, with the potential for a play-in tournament for the 8-seed. While excitement in running high in NBA circles, there are some winners and losers to this NBA return.  The NBA has been actively working on a return-to-play plan for weeks. The league has been in active discussions with players, personnel and owners preparing to resume the 2019-2020. The league shuttered on March 11th in the wake...

NBA Players Who Have Flopped & Flashed

NBA players changing teams can be so exciting. There’s inherent risk for teams signing free agents or making blockbuster trades. That risk extends into the draft, especially the lottery, where the hopes and dreams of the fanbase are pinned on one pick.  New players have a short time to get acclimated, but they’re soon expected to produce. With millions of dollars on the line, these teams hope they’ve hit big on a player, and sometimes struggle to recover when those players flop.  Some of these players will have...

NBA Return: Playoff Possibilities and Streaks

The NBA has been actively working on a return-to-play plan for weeks. The league has been in active discussions with players, personnel and owners preparing to resume the 2019-2020. The league shuttered on March 11th in the wake of Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert testing positive for the coronavirus. Now, the NBA return is poised for July 31st. Teams began opening facilities for voluntary player workouts in mid-May, although coaches couldn’t attend. Shortly thereafter, the league entered into negotiations with Disney about hosting the NBA return in something of a limited bubble.

NBA Return to Play Plans

The NBA’s return to play plan is in the works. The league is in active discussions with their players, owners and potential host sites preparing to resume the 2019-2020 season. The league shuttered on March 11th in the wake of Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert testing positive for the coronavirus. Soon thereafter, much of the country shuttered as well.  In recent weeks, the United States has slowly started to reopen, with some areas opening wider than others. NBA teams began opening facilities for voluntary player workouts earlier this month, although coaches couldn’t attend.

Some NBA Teams to Open Facilities

The NBA shuttered on March 11 after Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for Covid-19. Since then, there's been little word from league offices regarding the potential restart or cancellation of the season, despite recent rumblings about a total cancellation.  These misgivings had many NBA fans worried about the prospect of losing basketball altogether until whenever next season came around. But LeBron James took to Twitter this week and reassured the masses. https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/1255912096929165312?s=20 James's tweet came only days ahead of NBA teams planning to reopen...

Kenny Atkinson, Brooklyn Nets part ways

Kenny Atkinson and the Brooklyn Nets announced Saturday morning that the two parties were "mutually" parting ways.  Coming on the heels of a 19-point victory over the San Antonio Spurs, this move is something of a surprise. The Nets, who despite a below-.500 record currently hold the 7-seed, are in the middle of a playoff race. They are trying to fend off the Orlando Magic, in order to avoid a first-round matchup with the Milwaukee Bucks. The move was announced via a statement by Brooklyn's general manager, Sean Marks.

76ers’ Joel Embiid out with shoulder injury

Joel Embiid's week started with a dominant 49-point, 14-rebound effort against the Atlanta Hawks. The Philadelphia 76ers saw the best version of their big man, however, one game later, they saw the worst as Embiid suffered a shoulder injury.  The All-Star center sprained his left shoulder in Philly's 108-94 road loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 76ers were already without guard Ben Simmons. The loss dropped Philadelphia to 9-21 on the road. The injury scare brings the team's largest fear with building around Embiid to the forefront. There was good news on the...

5 Things to Watch For in the NBA’s Second Half

The NBA wrapped up it's All-Star festivities last weekend, and all eyes have shifted to the league's home stretch. With less than 30 games remaining, teams are looking toward the postseason or the offseason.  About 20 of the league's 30 teams are either in or aiming for the playoffs. That leaves 10 teams thinking about the draft, free agency and next season.  Over the last several seasons, NBA Finals matchups felt inevitable thanks to the Golden State Warriors and LeBron James. But player movement last offseason largely reshaped the league. Couple that with injuries, and the 2020 NBA Finals...

NBA Trade Deadline 2020 Preview: 5 Teams

The NBA Trade Deadline comes this Thursday, February 6th, at 3 PM Eastern. The deadline could potentially reshape the playoff race, despite the lack of big names on the market. Here's a look at five of the most interesting teams heading into the NBA trade deadline. Oklahoma City Thunder The Thunder currently hold the 7-seed out West, but they're just 2.5 games out of the 4-seed. Going into the season, OKC seemed like a potential NBA trade deadline seller, but they've exceeded expectations.
