Astros Open Grapefruit League Play With Loss To Washington

Sunday saw the Houston Astros on the field in West Palm Beach to take on the Washington Nationals to open spring training.  Saturday’s game against the Nationals would have kicked off spring training for the Astros, but after two short innings, the game was cancelled due to heavy rain in the area.  Below is your Houston Astros game recap for February 23rd.

Yordan Alvarez, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year, saw his first action on the field as he went 1-3 with two strikeouts.  

Astros prospect Drew Ferguson scored the Astros’ lone run in the fifth inning with a double

Framber Valdez got the start for Houston, throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and one walk.

Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers will see most of the day-to-day starters on the field for the Houston Astros
